ATOMIC AND MAGNETIC SRO IN Fe-Mn-Si ALLOYS
Neutron diffuse scattering and saturation magnetization experiments have been made on single crystals specimens of Fe3-,MnCSi with c = 0.164 and 0.284 at room temperature. Atomic clustering of Mn atoms on the B sublattice has been revealed. A model of magnetic moment distribution around Mn impurities has been developed and fitted to the experimental magnetic diffuse cross sections. RRsults obta...
متن کاملHydrogen-vacancy interactions in Fe-C alloys.
Energetics and concentrations of hydrogen-containing point defect clusters (PDCs) in Fe-C alloys are calculated and cast into a PDC dominance diagram. Because of the strong binding effects of iron vacancies on the stability of the clusters, hydrogen accumulation requires the total hydrogen and vacancy concentrations to be comparable. As a result of the interplay between repulsive and attractive...
متن کاملtransformation in metastable Fe - Mn alloys
Metastable Fe-Mn alloys exhibit a non-thermoelastic martensitic transformation which is accompanied by a significant thermal effect (ca. 20 J/g). Among Fe-Mn alloys, the highest value of latent heat was registered in alloys with 17-18 wt. % Mn. In this work we investigate effects of carbon (up to 0.4 wt. %) and cold rolling (5-25% of thickness reduction) on the latent heat and the temperature h...
متن کاملFe–Al–Mn–C lightweight structural alloys: a review on the microstructures and mechanical properties
Adding a large amount of light elements such as aluminum to steels is not a new concept recalling that several Fe-Al-Mn-C alloys were patented in 1950s for replacement of nickel or chromium in corrosion resistance steels. However, the so-called lightweight steels or low-density steels were revisited recently, which is driven by demands from the industry where steel has served as a major structu...
متن کاملEffect of Prestraining and Training on the γ→ Transformation in Fe-Mn-Si Alloys
The effect of training and predeformation on the martensitic transformation is investigated. It is concluded that Ms as a function of predeformation strain must have a maximum at around 3% strain. Prestrains less than 5% will enhance the martensitic transformation whereas larger prestrains depress it due to strain hardening of the y phase.
